2021 marks 700 years since Dante’s death. The “Supreme Poet”, as he’s often called in Italy, is considered the father of the Italian language. Moreover, his Divine Comedy is regarded as one of the greatest literary masterpieces of all time.

Travelling by train along the first Italian trans-Apennines railway the Faentina railway is by far the best option. A fantastic journey across the Apennines and Casentino’s beautiful natural landscapes, passing through delightful villages where time seems to have stopped.

It was inaugurated on April 23rd 1893: the new railway line was 101 km long and counted 30 galleries, 55 bridges and viaducts, 18 overpasses and 15 rail stations in between. The Faentina railway rises till 578 meters above the sea level and offers breathtaking views along the way.

The inauguration of ‘Dante’s Train’ will be on June 6th 2021with conductor Riccardo Muti onboard. It will then stop in Marradi in the Florence province where Muti will be conducting the Luigi Cherubini orchestra for the reopening of the Teatro degli Animosi.
The train will take visitors from Florence to Ravenna with stops in Borgo San Lorenzo and Marradi in Tuscany as well as Brisighella and Faenza in Emilia Romagna along the original “tracks” of the well-known poet.

From July 3 to October 10, visitors will be able to use the historic carriages of the ‘centoporte’ train made available by Emilia-Romagna railways.
