Your holiday in Tuscany near Florence, between traditions and flavors
“The journey is a feeling, not just a fact” Mario Soldati
There are so many surprises that the Mugello valley has to offer you. We’ll help you discovering this rich and generous area, while choosing together unusual itineraries in Mugello and Tuscany.
Discovering handcraft & old trades – The art of “cutting tools” and wood inlaying in Scarperia, the sandstone carving in Firenzuola, leather goods and wicker and straw plaiting, the ancient artistic pottery and embroidery in Borgo San Lorenzo and Barberino di Mugello.
We recommend a visit to the Museo dei Ferri Taglienti, the museum of knives and blades, in the beautiful Palazzo dei Vicari in Scarperia, as well as a visit to the Chini artistic pottery Museum in Borgo San Lorenzo.
Searching for the traditional local farm products – Mugello produces an excellent cow milk, meat, oil, wine, honey, cereal, and potatoes, as well as the well-known Marrone IGP chestnut. In Tuscany, the Mugello territory is one of the areas that is most dedicated to the organic crop growing.
It goes without saying that the local cuisine uses these local ingredients to make its healthy, simple and tasty dishes as the famous “tortelli mugellani”. They are made with spring water and stoned-milled local flours and stuffed with the local white potato and topped with meat or mushroom sauce. Duck or rabbit sauce is also extremely suited to this dish.
